Explore the old medina of Marrakech, UNESCO listed, travel to the Atlas Mountains meet the locals and learn about the Berber culture and customs. Overnight in the Sahara Desert Berber camp, ride the camels across the dunes, walk in the oases and villages to discover the complex irrigation system of local tribes.
Day 1: Marrakech- Telouet- Ouarzazate-Skoura
Our guide and driver will pick you up from your hotel and start driving across the plains of Marrakech towards the stunning views of the Atlas Mountains. As you get to the pass of Tizi n Tichka, 2062 m, you drop down to the valley that used to be the route for the caravans arriving from the sahara desert. We stop to visit the KASBAH OF TELOUET, then continue driving through the Ounila valley before you reach the famous picturesque village of Ait ben Haddou, a UNESCO world heritage since 1987, it is here where so many films have been shot like Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia. You will enjoy a walk in the Kasbah. Drive via Ouarzazate and overnight in ait Skoura Oases.
Day2: Skoura Oases
Today is a learning and discovery day, we walk through the gardens of Skoura oases to be involved in the activities with a local family from the village of Skoura. For women they will have a chance to interact with women of the local family, learn how to bake bread in the clay ovens and do some cooking. The men will be having some agricultural activities depending on the season, you will be shown how to do it by local farmers, it is the best way to get deep into local culture through interaction and communication as our guide will be assisting to facilitate – break the cultural hinders – the day will be focused in different areas with exploration of the irrigation system and local architecture. There will be some time for local craft may be visit a family that is known for pottery making, which is an ancient craft in the village and inherited by the Berbers from the Jews. By the night time everyone will be exhausted but it is time to dance and sing to the local music and admire the rhythms of Amazigh music.
Day 3: Skoura
After a lovely breakfast on the terrace of your guest house overlooking the oases, we set off for our journey back to Marrakech and stop in Ouarzazate, known as the Hollywood of North Africa, a lot of movies have filmed here like Gladiator, Lawrence of Arabia, Kingdom of Heaven…You will have time in the town to get your picnic lunch, then keep driving towards Marrakech, where your guide will choose a beautiful shaded place to stop for picnic.
